One misuse of the English language which never ceases to disturb me is the folloing statement:
"I could care less". When I hear that I usually ask, " how much less could you care?" Look at that prase carefully. You will see the person is actually saying, without realizing it, they care quite a lot. The correct pharse is: "I couldn't care less".
Another misuse is the phrase: "there weren't no 'etc'. This, of course, is a double negative, making the statement a positive statement.
