Thoughts From Merle

This is my first attempt at writing a blog. As I explained in another part of my Blog, I will be writing about numerous subjects. One area I did not mention was what to watch for when reading or listening to the news reports. News reporters and anchor people have a great many ways of reaching your subconsious mind to influence the way you think about a particular subject, person, industry or policta party or situation. Off and on I will discus many of these methods, one a time.

Today's lesson: When two indiduals, companies, political parties, etc. are listed, in side by side photos, news headlines and sub headlines, take note which one is shown on the left side. I doubt if most people realize they subconsiously place greater importance to the one on the left or the one listed first. This is not of great importance if it only occurs once but if the same one is shown on the left or listed first time after time, it has an accumulating affect. If it is a favorable story about two of whatever the news story is about, greater credit is subconsiously given to the first listed or the one on the left. If it is a negative story, greater blame is placed on the one on the left or listed first.

If one is aware of this attempt to influence your thinking, you can resist their efforts and not be influenced.
