Beware of abreviated quotes

Another method the news media uses to twist your
thinking to the way they want you to think is through the use of abreviated quotes;

Case in Point:

In the late 1990's, the Republican party controlled
the House of Representatives. Newt Gingrich was
the House majority leader.
One day he gave a speech, which I watched on
Cspan. I don't remember his exact words but
they were something like this:
"Some people will tell you black people have a
lower IQ than white people but I am here today
to tell you there is no difference in the IQ between
the two races".
Imagine my shock and surprise when I was
watching one of the national TV news outlets,
I think it was ABC.
This is what I heard from
the quote they ran of Newt Gingrich's speech.
"Black people have a lower IQ than white people".
This is not an isolated nor uncommon occurance.
All the national news outlets, except Fox News,
are noted for doing just this sort of abreviated
quoting. Fox News runs quotes but they include
enough of the speech so you know you are getting
the full and correct message the speech givers are conveying.
